Welcome to HackIllinois! We are the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s premier college hackathon, as well as the largest hackathon in the Midwest. Our organization allows people to express their creativity, innovation, and skills through our services and platforms. Products and features of HackIllinois are available online through hackillinois.org, info.hackillinois.org, and the HackIllinois mobile app; as well as through marketing, sponsorship, and distribution services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1. User General Demographics
  • Through voluntary written responses to HackIllinois Google Forms, we collect the name, school, degree type, graduation year, email, gender, Github username, location, race, resume data, and other general user data for event organization and opportunity sharing.
2.2. Discord Tags
  • Personal data, such as Discord tags of users in HackIllinois-related Discord channels, may be saved to help with event communication and coordination.
2.3. Google Analytics
  • HackIllinois measures website traffic and collects user analytic data through Google Analytics, which may be used for marketing purposes and search engine optimization.
2.4. Authentication
  • HackIllinois utilizes GitHub and Google OAuth, which allows our mobile app users to log in through saved login data.
  • iUser data is cached in your device upon login.

  • Our systems infrastructure uses the following third-party providers and distributors. For concerns about the data collection done by these services, please review their respective privacy policies.

2.6. Event Pictures and Video/Audio Recordings
  • HackIllinois may photograph or record events, workshops, and webinars. These photos or recordings may be shared with the general public for HackIllinois promotional purposes.

3.1. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
  • As an organization under the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), we directly work with UIUC staff for hackathon organization and execution. In this process, we may share personal information, such as emergency contact information or dietary restrictions, with UIUC hackathon staff.
3.2. Sponsors and Business Partners
  • We may share personal information with our sponsors and other connections during negotiations, financing, or promotional activities.
